I knew there was an era left in there somewhere between the Post-War era and the end.  I just had to decide when it ended.  I chose 1953 because this was the last year the Telechron line of clocks had separate names and identities.  After this era General Electric flexed its muscle had its name on all clocks coming out of Ashland.

Quality continued to slide.  The nicest clocks of the period were the six final members of the 3 & 4 series.  The kitchen clocks were still showing some style but the alarms were largely a forgettable bunch.  Naturally, this was the MOST profitable era in the company's history.  Clock prices continued to drop and the company was blessed with a long track record of quality.  The public either didn't equate this price drop with a drop in quality or didn't care.  In fairness, few other electric clock companies were turning out the kind of clocks seen in the 30's.

What I can't (well, I won't anyway) show you here is the driving force behind Telechron's boom years.  The clock radio, was almost as big as television in the early 50's.  Somehow, some way, G.E. managed to sell clock movements to nearly every radio manufactiurer in America.  Crosley, Philco, Jewel, Zenith, Motorola--you name it.  They all carried --and bragged about-- having a Telechron movement.  The plants turned out tens of thousands of clocks, movements and rotors every day.  I often wonder about how the company could be so dominant in 1952 and struggling for it's life a decade later.  Enjoy it while it lasts.
